All-on-4 Dental Implants (Full Mouth Teeth or Dentures) | Sunshine Coast
What does All-On-4® mean?
You have heard of All On 4 as a solution for full mouth teeth replacement and you would like to better understand this concept of dentistry. You’re in the right place. As the phrase reveals, It is a dental implant technique where all teeth in the upper or lower jaw are replaced with just four implants (hence the definition “all-on-4 teeth”). These four implants are placed in a specific position of the maxilla (upper jaw) or mandible (lower jaw) and their position act as a support mechanism for the placement of a new set of fixed teeth.

Understanding the All-On-4® Dental Implant Procedure for Teeth Replacement
Four dental implants (or in some cases a few more, hence also the term “All-on-x”) are used to support a fixed prosthesis that can be fitted right after the implant surgery. This is called the “temporary bridge” and as mentioned the advantage is that this temporary prosthesis is mounted the same day of surgery, offering patients the convenience of leaving the dental practice with a full arch dental restoration and a new smile!
Post surgery, the bone tissue in the jaw bone integrates with the four implants after they are placed, forming a solid point of attachment for the final dental prosthesis.
With the All On 4 teeth replacement method, two straight anterior implants are placed vertically in the front the jaw, a region with higher bone density, while two posterior implants (the implants at the back of the jawbone) are tilted 45° (or placed at an angle of up to 45°) towards the rear of the mouth. Compared to other implant methods, the All On 4 procedure doesn’t require the same density of bone through the jaw in order to secure the implant, and therefore there is no need for bone grafting even if patients may have missed teeth for a long time and may experience bone loss.
Suitability for All-On-4 Dental Implants.
When is this Procedure Recommended?
This procedure is indicated for patients that have a significant number of missing teeth, damaged teeth or are about to loose them or are not fixable. It’s also suitable for patients who already wear a denture that they find painful and not ideal and dream of natural teeth.
The All on 4 implants procedure is suitable for every age. People who want to live an active lifestyle and more importantly want new teeth but don’t want to wear loose dentures can count on this dental implant treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions on the All-on-4 Implant Treatment
Can I pay for the All-on-4 treatment with a payment plan?
Yes, our clinic offers payment plans. Please book a consultation with our experienced dental assistants who will be able to explain all the payment plan options available.
Does the All-on-4 treatment ever require more than 4 implants?
Every patient is different which is why we need to have a first consultation (or more) to be able to determine the clinical case. Generally, in implant dentistry we consider two main conditions when designing the case for teeth replacement solutions:
- The condition of your jaw and bone to withstand forces
- The amount of force applied during day-to-day activities on your implants
We need to comprehensively assess your current bone and teeth structure during consultations to be able to determine if more than 4 implants are required to allow for the stability needed to withstand any day-to-day force on the implants. Therefore, in short, yes, sometimes more than four implants are necessary, hence why the term all-on-4 plus ® was coined.
